Two paintings I did a few weeks ago.
Self-portrait. Acrylic on sketch book cover.
I began by painting the background, I used a roller to apply layers of colour, this created an interesting texture, the sketch book cover also had a texture, that looked really good under paint. I also squirted some paint directly from the the tube on to the canvas, which made a really great splatter effect, I also flicked lumps paint at the canvas. I painted the portrait over it. I like the effect the paint lumps have on the portrait, adding another layer of texture.
Acrylic on mount board.
The background is layers of rollered on paint and hand prints. The portrait is a mixture of unusual colours.
